Level 2 NVQs are for people already working in a construction trade, operative or plant role who need formal recognition of the competence they have built up on the job.
Supervising other people already? See Level 3 Occupational Work Supervision, or compare all NVQ levels.
Level 2 NVQs are competence-based. Rather than testing you in a classroom, they assess whether you can carry out the work of your occupation to the required standard, using evidence from your workplace. The exact requirements depend on the pathway you take.
Not sure if this is the right NVQ for your role?
Tell us what you do and we can help identify the most suitable qualification.
Assessment is based on evidence from your normal work activity rather than traditional classroom study.

Card schemes update their requirements from time to time, so always check the current rules for your occupation before applying.

No. Level 2 NVQs are work-based, so you are assessed on the work you already carry out rather than attending classroom study.
Evidence comes from your normal work. Depending on your pathway, it can include observation, photographs, job documentation, witness testimony where appropriate and professional discussion. We explain what is relevant to your pathway when you register.
Yes. The NVQ is designed to be completed alongside your normal work, because the evidence comes from the work you carry out.
The right pathway is the one that matches the work you actually do. Tell us your trade and the tasks you carry out day to day and we will help you identify a suitable pathway.
Some Level 2 construction NVQs may form part of the qualification requirement for a relevant CSCS or partner-scheme card. Eligibility depends on the exact occupation and card type, so check the current scheme requirements before applying. Completing an NVQ does not automatically entitle you to a card.
Tell us about your role and experience and we will confirm whether this is the right qualification for you.
